Our association is off to a great start! 45 people interested in Southdowns attended our organizational meeting on March 30th, 2008!
Here's what we accomplished.....
- Confirmed our purpose
- Officially formed our organization called "The Wisconsin Southdown Association"
- Elected officers
- Planned our first annual meeting
- Identified membership qualifications
- Talked about plans for group advertising...both on the web and in print.
Our Association is made up of a balance of experienced breeders and folks new to sheep and/or Southdowns. At our organizational meeting, we confirmed there are several things that will be the mission of this association....
- we will promote the Southdown breed in Wisconsin
- we will work to provide our children with a positive livestock experience
- we will provide mentorship for others interested in Southdowns
- we will create a strong network of those interested in Southdown sheep with the intent of helping each other
- we will work to ensure that our membership is aware of National Association news and changes
Meeting minutes will be posted soon! Watch this site for more details.
The youth that attended had their own meeting. They talked about their sheep plans for the year, learned more about Southdowns, played some games and elected officers.
If you are interested in joining our association, please contact Barb Bishop, Secretary/Treasurer, at mbgenetics@centurytel.net for more details. Youth are especially encouraged to join! There is no fee for youth membership.
If you are interested in Wisconsin Southdown sheep, please see the Breeder Links on this website and connect with one of our members.....whether you are just starting out or are expererienced shepherds, we would be happy to help you!
