In 2007, Wisconsin Southdown Breeders produced more National Champion Sale and Show Ewes than breeders in any other state. "Florence" - Reserve Junior Champion Ewe at the 2009 NAILE Junior Southdown Show
Bred and owned by Circle J Southdowns, John Jones, Rio, WI.  She was also the first winner of
the Florence Strouse Best Breed Character Ewe Traveling Cup.

Barb Bishop (MB Genetics, Rio, Wisconsin) was named the 2009 recipient of the
Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative Art Pope Award.
Presenting the award at the 2009 Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival was Amy Jones, WSBC President.  The award, in honor of Dr. Art Pope - both a sheep producer and University of Wisconsin-Madison professor emeritus of sheep science - is given for exceptional service to and active involvement in the sheep industry.  It is the highest achievement award given every year by the WSBC.
