Each year, the Wisconsin Southdown Association awards one or more ewe lambs, donated by Wisconsin breeders, to youth in Wisconsin who have a desire to start a Southdown flock of their own. The youth must prove, through their application and a letter of reference, an interest and passion for Southdown sheep, that they have a strong support network (family, 4-H/FFA leader, etc.) to help them succeed and the resources to care for the ewe.
The donating breeder mentors the youth until the ewe is of breeding age, to encourage proper care and be available to the youth and their family for any questions they may have.
Applicants that have been awarded ewes in the past have gone on to win championships and supreme championships at their county fairs, classes at the WI State Fair and start very successful flocks of their own! The WI Southdown Association is very committed to awarding high quality ewes and encouraging a positive experierence to youth who are involved in this program!
The deadline for 2012 Application is: Friday, March 26, 2012
